More Bias at CNN
by Carlos
Some of you may have been watching Christianne Amanpour’s CNN series on “God’s Warriors.” Last night was about Jewish extremists; tonight was about Muslims. The treatment was not equal.
Last night Amanpour portrayed the Palestinians sympathetically, even as victims, while making it seem that Israel is run by extremists and terrorists with the collusion of the powerful "Jewish lobby." She gave great emphasis to the few violent incidents perpetrated by Jews, including a planned attack on a Muslim school that didn’t succeed. One might even have thought that most violent terrorists in the Middle East are Jews. Jimmy Carter's contention that the settlements are the key obstacle to peace, even worse than suicide bombing, was repeated without challenge - as if before 1967 the Arabs had been perfectly reasonable. Mearsheimer and Walt’s “Jewish Power” allegations were reported without any contrasting point of view.
Tonight Amanpour reported on Muslim extremists, repeatedly reminding us that they are only a “tiny minority.” While she had not one good word to say about Judaism the night before, tonight she featured a sympathetic portrayal of an American Muslim woman whose “jihad” is a “struggle” for moral values. She did not even get to anti-Israel terrorism until the final ten minutes of the program.
Overall impression: Israel is steered by crazy Jewish fanatics, while Muslim extremists are just a tiny fringe. Her choice of live interviewees, including Karen Armstrong, Fawaz Gerges, and Jimmy Carter, all Muslim sympathizers, was hardly “fair and balanced.”
Please, don’t anybody tell me that Fox News is the biased one while CNN gives a more objective view of the news. Fox may be skewed, but CNN is no less skewed.
Religion is the cancer infesting the entire Middle East and spreading throughout the world. Jews certainly do not have a clean bill of health. But Jewish extremism is nothing compared to the virulance of Islamic hatred, true to the tradition of that religion’s founder. We need to overcone our political correctness and start facing the truth.
