The Problem Is You

by Precious Mike

I have liberal friends and I read a lot of liberal propaganda. The big rallying cry nowadays is "Beat Bush". People voted for John Kerry because they felt he had the best potential to Beat Bush. Not that people know that much about John Kerry or what he stands for (I'm still trying to figure it out myself), but that's not the point. The point is that unless you're a billionaire, Bush is making your life - and the planet - a living hell and must be stopped.

I wonder, if Kerry becomes President: will all of the angry, disenfranchised liberals suddenly find their views represented in the White House? I doubt it. The fact is, Bush is good for liberals. He keeps them in business, especially the rich ones like Michael Moore, Gary Trudeau and Fat Mike of Punk Voter (as these individuals themselves have acknowledged). The biggest difference I see if Kerry gets elected is that liberals won't have such a big bullseye to aim at.

My point is that while scapegoating is an effective way to rally the troops, it ends up obscuring the real challenges that we face. If everyone - American or not - who blames Bush for all the evils in the world would instead invest their energy into creating positive change, things would get done a lot faster. Politicians must be held accountable, but I think things have gone a bit too far. Let's stop giving so much credit to politicians for good or for ill. Vote for the candidate of your choice, but remember that the real power belongs to you.
