Illegal Glass
by Aaron F.
Color-changing glass is now illegal, according to the DEA. And what's more, we should be proud that a patriotic American organization like the DEA is shutting down websites that sell such devious glass. When I visited the color-changing glass website, I got this message: "By application of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, the website you are attempting to visit has been restrained by the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania pursuant to Title 21, United States Code, Section 853(e)(1)(A)." The background of the page is a flowing US flag. See for yourself!
Color Changing Glass
Let's see...why does this anger me...
Well to start, there's that whole "war on drugs" thing that I just don't agree with, especially as it pertains to marijuana, which is far less destructive than alcohol - a legal drug. Then there's the whole censorship thing and the inherent hypocrisy - if they can shut down a site like this, why are there still websites for Nazis and other hate groups, and why are there still recipes for dirty bombs floating around out there? And of course there's the American flag, which is so casually thrown on anything that some group somewhere deems as righteous and good. What if I disagree? What if I don't think your cause is righteous and good? Putting a flag on it makes it seem like if I have a different perspective, maybe I'm not a good American. It's alienating, and that's not what this country is supposed to be about.
But the biggest reason it's rediculous is the fact that they are trying to prevent the sale of instruments that could be used to smoke pot. No, I won't even try to contend that they are supposed to be used for tobacco only. No one's that dumb. But if you're going to make a glass pipe illegal, why not make other smoking instruments illegal? If all the things I've witnessed pot being smoked out of were made illegal, there would be no more PVC pipes, no more hollowed out pieces of wood, no more bottles of Goldschlaeger no more WWI Russian bolt-action rifles (don't ask), no more alluminum foil, no more rolling papers or cigars, and no more apples. Yes, when all else fails, use an apple. But the sale of apples will soon be deemed unamerican and illegal, so get em while they're still growing domestically!
