They Debated...
by Aaron F.
After watching interviews on the tele of former Bush adversaries saying that Bush surprised them with his debating skills during their respective campaigns, the foreign policy debate was a bit of a surprise. Bush seemed somewhat flustered, came accross as unintelligent (this part obviously was NOT a surprise), generally did not have any insightful answers to the issues that were raised, and stuck to his script, which involved repeating that his opponent was a flip-flopper. Kerry came accross as sharp, poised, unintimidated and confident. He explained exactly what his position is on a variety of foreign policy issues and even outlined some of his foreign policy plans. Polls taken just after the debate indicated overwhelmingly that Kerry "won" the debate. Of the polls I saw, one said that 53% said Kerry won vs. 30-something% for Bush (I guess the rest thought they were both terrible or it was a tie), and the other poll said that 70% thought Kerry won.
SO...
1) Do these debates mean anything?
2) Will a victory in the debate swing the election towards Kerry?
3) Is anyone here more comfortable with Kerry now that he has stated his stance on foreign policy and outlined some of his plans?
