Re: "People got sick of a war in Iraq that took our attention off bin Laden and Afghanistan, and rightly or wrongly they blame the Republicans for a policy of deregulation and favoring the rich that has screwed everybody else."
I happen to agree with every word of this. And I blame most of it on the short-sighted, self-absorbed, mediocre leadership of George W. Bush which, rightly or wrongly, has to include the Republican Party. He failed but the party must also bear the burden of his policies.
Where our paths diverge is on what actually those lessons are that must be learned for the Republicans' survival. For if another Republican Renaissance cannot come relatively quickly I fear if may never come again. The Shadow Dems seek to bury everything I personally value--starting with American history and segueing into Capitalism, freedom of speech, assembly, religion and expression! We Republicans therefore must choose our "lessons" with great wisdom and courage. Following a cautious middle path with middle leadership (for consensus) is for sheep--or lambs to the slaughter. I personally look to people like Newt Gingrich, Bobby Jindal, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani to provide the ideas, the know-how and the guts the party needs to re-invent itself--if we can withstand the socialist/criminal juggernaut that comes to power on 1/20/09.
With regard to Israel, I must say again that I agree with your position. Israel cannot lose its resolve, but "past performance" inspires no confidence. |
