Israel is fighting for its life!

The relative casualty count in this conflict is deceptive. There is a story that numbers don't tell. The story is told by the rockets, how they are changing and morphing into continually more powerful versions of themselves. The story is told by pronouncements of Hamas that the world ignores.

Buy why, WHY does the world ignore this story when every concession Israel makes brings her children closer to the abyss? Why, when Palestinians break every treaty (purchased at such blood sacrifice and terror by the Jews), does the world condemn Israel alone for doing whatever it must merely to defend itself?

Why not silence instead of condemnation from the world? Wouldn't that silence alone be damnable enough? Or could it be that "World Opinion" is actually a euphemism--and cover--for its own animus?

The Priest who is the Pastor for my husband's church was in hospital for a week due to high blood pressure and heart problems. In his absence, a visiting Priest from Nigeria officiated at the Sunday morning service we attend. His sermon on the love of Christ went into some detail about how the Jews rejected Jesus and in so doing exiled themselves from the blessed and placed themselves outside redemption.

All the way from Nigeria in 2009, we are still and ever the "chosen" by Christian, Gentile and Muslim alike. THAT'S YOUR WORLD OPINION! If we try and accommodate it, they will gladly let us die--and say we brought it on ourselves.

I think Israel should fight, without apology or explanation to anyone. I think it should fight for its life, because if it doesn't, Israel will be annihilated, and the world will not care. But we Jews must care for Israel and care nothing for "World Opinion" beyond the level to which the world truly cares for its Jews. And, when we are speaking of the Jews of this world--what is left of us--Israel comes first!

I can't believe that about the Nigerian priest. They let him say that without any protest? Then what is your husband doing connected to a church like that??? Yikes.

My husband is connected to a Roman Catholic Church as he is Roman Catholic. And we are both needful of a place of worship close to home at this point in our lives. There's not all that much to choose from up in Sullivan County that is within half-an-hour of home (particularly in the winter).

We tried the Reform Temple in Monticello first. You will recall how that went with their woman Rabbi who, in addition to other 'shortcomings', seemed not overly welcoming to Arthur, I must say!

So, I sing in the little choir @ St. Joseph's in Wurtsboro which has the nicest congregation you'd care to meet anywhere. The Church's Pastor is a fine Priest whose sermons are always steeped in history, philosophy and theology from both testaments. In addition, he has on numerous occasions expressed in his sermons feelings about Judaism and the Jewish people that I found most surprising. Nowadays I rarely expect to find such respect and affection (for our people and our religion) from just about anyone let alone a Priest in a Roman Catholic Church...and in Wurtsboro!

The Pastor was taken very ill quite suddenly 2 1/2 weeks ago. His blood pressure was off the charts and his heart is not good. In fact, we were told that three stints were put in his heart. In the midst of all of that (in mid-week) an ordained priest was needed for Sunday Service to perform certain rituals of the Mass that a Deacon cannot do. So, someone (the Diocese?) came up with this ordained gift from afar.

Carlos, in a free society one is free to say what one thinks--even on a pulpit. However, there may well have been a protest. During the salient moments of this rather long, rambling sermon, the Deacon turned red in the face, kept shaking his head 'no' and looked disparagingly at the priest. The following week our guest was back, but in mid-service (to our surprise) the Pastor returned to the pulpit to give a brief sermon, and then left. The Nigerian Priest was silenced. We shall see if he returns this Sunday, or if he's gone for good. But regardless, I doubt if we'll be hearing anything further from this guy other than "Peace be with you"...and with all of us, somehow!

Now, when you ask, "without any protest?" I must ask, "Why didn't I protest?"

If I had been in that audience, you can be sure that priest would have heard from me, free speech or no. Preaching anti-Semitism from the pulpit in the 21st century just doesn't cut it. I wish I had been there, just so I could write to the bastard.

Well, they say there is a severe priest shortage and they must really be fishing for the dregs. But having to choose between pedophiles and anti-Semites - surely things cannot actually be that bad.

In your dreams! What ever happened to those God-awful Presbyterians? They may not have had a fill-in Priest go too far from their pulpit, but they did manage from within their own precincts to disseminate much that was as toxic as the worst stuff we've been showing and telling here.

Unfortunately, Carlos, we bear witness to the mounting evidence that anti-semitism very much DOES "cut it" everywhere. From the United Nations to YouTube, from Paris to the streets of San Francisco, from the radical left to the extreme, far right, from righteous Christians to radical, guilt-ridden, frightened Jews--we see and hear nothing but anti-semitism in all its myriad guises. Ours is the New Age of Anti-Semitism and we know it. For what else has been happening worldwide that we now are talking about on this blog?

Well, I sure wish someone would try, for on this particular subject world Jewry is stuck behind the eight ball, yet again! And World Opinion is cocked to blow our heads off with both barrels:

*Global anti-semitism masked as anti-Zionism--as if that were a badge of some sort of moral "equivalency"
*Israel losing the ground (both literally and metaphorically) upon which to stand and fight for its very existence

So, I'm just spoiling for a fight from someone...Simon, where are you when I need you?
